Advent Service

The Advent Service at St Peter in Chains Catholic Church on Monday 12th December was a festive treat for the packed congregation. The Young Voices, Senior & Sixth Form Choirs as well as the Brass Group and Sixth Form Musicians performed beautifully and led the Christmas Carols which the congregation loved & enthusiastically sang along filling everyone with the impending Christmas Spirit. As a result, our Head - Mrs Catherine Brown who attended the service, made the following statement to all staff on Tuesday morning;

'I wanted to share with you how wonderful the Advent Service was yesterday evening. The church was full and it was a  very special occasion.

It was by far the best Advent Service I have attended and was an absolute credit to the staff and students who had spent so much time and trouble preparing'.

A massive THANK YOU to all involved on behalf of the Music Department staff.

Have a Happy & Peaceful Christmas.

Christmas Concert 2011

The recent Christmas Concert on 7th December featured all the department’s larger groups and was the first school showcase of the year for the thriving junior ensembles.

A capacity audience thoroughly enjoyed the instrumental ensembles of the first half and the choirs of the second half.  Well done to the150plus students who participated and achieved such high standards.  One of the highlights was the final performance of ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’ which combined all performers plus the audience for a rousing finale.

Musical Contributions to the school - Autumn Term

Update of recent musical contribution to school and the wider community:

Worship Band provided an excellent standard of music within the Mercy Day, Year 7 Welcome and All Saints Day Masses to enhance the liturgical experience of all present.  As part of the celebrations for the year of Catholic Education, Chamber Choir and selected musicians led the music for the Federation Mass at St Peter’s Church in early November.

A very successful start to this year’s concert schedule ensued as a capacity audience, witnessed excellent standards by the Senior and Sixth Form ensembles at the Autumn Concert at St Paul’s RC Church on 20th October.  Particularly pleasing was the high number of students involved and how many have again made the successful transition from Junior to Senior Ensembles this academic year.

The first Sixth Form Musician’s Concert was very warmly received by pupils and staff of St Peter’s Catholic Primary School on Wednesday November 9th.  The 20+ Sixth Form students involved were again excellent role models for the primary pupils to aspire to.  Particularly impressive were the joint St Peter’s and McAuley choir items of Circle of Life and Yesterday. This venture of joint choirs at such events was pioneered last year and will be continued due to it’s great success.
